Programme details

The programme is structured around a series of mobility periods over the two years
and across 5 European sites (France, Germany, Norway, Italy, Slovenia) ensuring at least
2 mobilities according to the scheme presented below

Year 1

Semester 1

Fundamentals
on processes

30 ECTS

Semester 2

Fundamentals
on materials

30 ECTS

Year 2

Semester 3

Specialization
with 4 possible tracks

30 ECTS

Semester 4

and Master thesis

30 ECTS

Year 1

During Year 1, all meta4.0 students will be first welcomed in France, in Saint-Etienne, in the end of August and will participate to the integration events, including the introduction of all the partners and flow of their study, seminars given by invited speakers, intensive French course, team building activities and field-trip (visit of some key companies of the region).

They will then start their academic period and attend a series of core courses reflecting the fundamentals of the programme:

Ecole Centrale de Lyon

Ecole Nationale d’Ingénieurs
de Saint-Etienne

Semester 1

In Saint-Etienne, students will be taught the basics of production engineering and specific knowledge on a wide range of key manufacturing technologies.

Whereas the technical aspects will be a significant part of these courses, the covered topics will also be used to disseminate theoretical knowledge in fundamental sciences such as mathematics, computer science and mechanics.

The semester will end mid-February and students will then move to Italy for the next semester.

  • 3 ECTS Basics of production engineering
  • 2 ECTS Transverse project on manufacturing technologies
  • 5 ECTS Additive Manufacturing
  • 5 ECTS Metalworking processes
  • 5 ECTS High temperature processes
  • 5 ECTS Physical Measurement
  • 2 ECTS French for beginners
  • 3 ECTS Research methods

Semester 2

All the students will move to Torino (Italy) and will start their semester around the last week of February.

The strength of meta4.0 is to fit its graduates with the best level of knowledge on Manufacturing but also on Materials science. Therefore, this semester will be dedicated to materials for advanced manufacturing, materials design, materials forming and surface science and technology, including techniques to investigate structure and properties of materials.

Italian language classes will be available on a non-credit basis.

  • 5 ECTS Materials for Advanced Manufacturing
  • 10 ECTS Materials & Design
  • 10 ECTS Materials forming
  • 5 ECTS Surface science and technology

Polytechnic University of Turin

Year 2

During Year 2, the students will get specialized in one of the key Manufacturing 4.0 topics and conduct their Master thesis. Semester 3 will start from the end of August.
The cohort will be distributed equally between the four specializations, with a minimum of 5 students in each degree awarding universities.
At the beginning of semester 2, presentations of the specialization tracks will be given to inform the students about the different possibilities and content.
Students will have to express their interest for three of them by Mid of March.
The final allocation will be based on their interest but also on their academic performance and 1er Semester ranking (only scientific field scores).

Semester 3
